Martina Lopez has been working with the figure in the landscape with the aid of digital media since 1985. Elements of the family photograph, the landscape and electronic media remain prevalent in her work. She incorporates images of other families to create a collective history, one which would allow individuals to bring their own memories to her work.
Born and raised in the great Pacific Northwest Region, Martina Lopez received a BFA from the University of Washington in Seattle and an MFA degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work is in numerous private and public collections, such as the Art Institute of Chicago, The Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., and The Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, Arizona. Lopez is the Head of the Photography program at the University of Notre Dame, where she has been teaching since 1993.
