The Fort Wayne Museum of Art’s quilt collection dates to 1992 with the acquisition of 55 exemplary quilts collected from Indiana Amish families by David Pottinger. Pottinger avidly collected quilts and their stories for decades while working in the recreational vehicle industry in LaGrange County. In recent years our quilt collection has broadened to include outstanding quilts from beyond Indiana with histories now spanning around 1850 to 1960.

This exhibit samples an array of quilts from our Amish collection and beyond–some of which are on view for the first time. The common thread running through this array of quilts is found in their beauty and in the loving devotion of the quilters to their art.
This exhibition was curated by Sue Slick, Collection Information Specialist, and is supported by the Edward D. and Ione Auer Foundation.
