History in the Making: New Paintings in the American Collection

In 2025, FWMoA launched a new collecting initiative to increase its holdings in 19th century American painting. This exhibition will feature recent acquisitions by important 19th century painters such as Charles Ethan Porter, Severin Roesen, John Casilear, Milne Ramsey, and John Ross Key, grandson of Francis Scott Key. These works bring us to a time in art history when European influence was still quite evident in American art, but whose subjects began to reflect the developing culture of our young country.
