Mike Kelly graduated from the Herron School of Art and Design in the 1960s and worked in Chicago as an award-winning designer and brand identity firm partner for thirty years. He now paints full time at his studio in Winona Lake, Indiana. Enjoy this one-night showcase of his oil and pastel paintings! He says,
“My paintings border on the edge of abstraction and representation. It is a journey of visual discovery where color is the primary focus and soul of the painting. The landscape provides the starting point for both the viewer and me, but the objective is to create a compelling image in its own right. To me, the process of painting is a balancing act between control and response, sophistication and simplicity. Each painting evolves from a combination of direct observation, photo reference, color studies, memory and invention. The color studies may lead to a series of the same subject.”
