Breach of Peace : Portraits of the 1961 Freedom Riders

Twenty portraits from the book Breach of Peace traveled to the High Museum in Atlanta and traveled to the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, the Field Museum in Chicago, the Skirball in Los Angeles, and the Bronx Museum in New York City. Now, the exhibit travels to Fort Wayne. The photographs present a “then and now” perspective on the historic freedom riders in the American South in the 1960s, using original mug shots as platforms for juxtaposing images of the freedom riders living today. Exhibited intentionally alongside Charlotta Janssen’s paintings of freedom riders, author and photographer Eric Etheridge documents these individuals 50 years after their historic rides.
