What is home? Whether simply a warm and safe place to reside or a meal surrounded by family, home is more than a physical space. It is cultivated in routine, memories, and relationships. From moments of leisure and connection to the sweat that keeps the house alive, domestic life has long been a creative muse. Visual art reflects the range of spaces, objects, and experiences—both solitary and social—that make a house a home.
This exhibition explores domesticity across eras and cultures. Relate to artists’ unique yet universal perspectives through pieces depicting everything from a casual kitchen phone call to a scenic countryside reprieve. Featured artists include Milton Avery, Katja Oxman, Wendy Red Star, and Carrie Mae Weems.
This exhibition is curated by the FWMoA Teen Council: Gwen Burch, Brooklynn Deane, Paikea Early-Aden, Julia Valcarcel, Promyse Williams, and Sophia Zhang. This exhibition is supported by the Edward D. and Ione Auer Foundation.
