Images of Women: Rooted in Nature

Images of Women: Rooted in Nature features contemporary artists, such as Esperanza Gama, Delita Martin, and Kathryn Polk, who visualize the cultural association of women with nature. Historically, this perceived relationship can be found in myths and creation stories, dating to early civilizations. Through the centuries, images promoted feminine qualities and roles in society. Today, we still use monikers, like Mother Nature and Mother Earth.

In this exhibition flora and fauna are symbols or are prominent elements in the setting that suggest a woman-nature connection. Some artists meld the two, resulting in hybrid creatures and bodily representations of the land.
