Joel Fremion and 21st Century Collage

November 10, 2012 - January 27, 2013

Collage can be traced back centuries, but this technique made a dramatic reappearance as a leading form of 20th century Modernism. Growing up, contemporary artist Joel Fremion explored the fine arts, particularly painting, and he was struck by the visual power of the collage technique and worked to push the form into new territory.  This quest led him to create his own technique of “fabric collage”, a process of sewing thousands of carefully cut scraps into a pictorial whole.

This exhibition is a career-encompassing retrospective and focuses on the evolution of Joel’s collage process, culminating in his most recent work.

This exhibition is made possible by the generous contributions of the following people:
Fort Wayne Art League, James Bell, Amy and Gregg Chappell, Crestwoods Frame Shop and Gallery, Pat Miller, Shira and Michael Pacult, Dr. George Rapp, Deborah and Michael Swinford, Julie Waterfield, and Beth and Tony Wolf
