Bronze: The Timeless Medium
Exploring myth, religion, and history, bronze has been used to make stunning artworks for over 5,000 years. Its inherent stability lends itself to figures in action, allowing arms and legs to extend from the sculpted body without fear of breaking. Additionally, its deep luster and rarity has cemented its value as a luxury medium for art, continuing to entice artists over the millennia.
Inspired by the 2021 exhibition, Bronze: The Artistic Interest, this ongoing display in the museum’s Karl S. and Ella Bolander gallery showcases a portion of the museum’s collection of bronze sculpture from the late 19th century to contemporary times.
