Dinh Q. Lê (1968-2024) is a Vietnamese-American artist known for his large-scale photo-weavings that examine the conflicting international narratives of the Vietnam War and the Cambodian Genocide. His work physically weaves together the ‘truths’ of the historic media, allowing for open dialogue between the subject matter and the narratives.
Forced to flee Vietnam in 1978, Dinh Q. Lê and his family immigrated to the United States. Utilizing his personal experience, he examines the opposing realities many individuals faced: piecing together their fractured histories. As displaced Vietnamese people living in America, these realities include loss, division, revolution, oppression, displacement, corruption and identity.
