SUMMARY
Docents are museum volunteers and are essential to educating the public about the diverse exhibitions on display at FWMoA, using the art as a tool to expand the minds of all who listen and learn. Leading engaging tours is a unique opportunity to work with children, heighten your mental engagement, and contribute to your community. All interested individuals will be asked to undergo a background check before joining the docent team. All finalists for this position must successfully pass a criminal background check.

Internships
Internships at FWMoA are open to college and graduate students and recent graduates. Students desiring academic credit for their internship must arrange for it themselves with their academic institution. To correspond with class or work, interns can arrange flexible schedules; however, some night and weekend hours may be required during special events.

SUMMARY
The Education Internship provides an overview of the education department, with an emphasis on school programs. FWMoA serves PreK-12 students and their educators through on- and off-site programming, often providing our youngest visitors with their first formal introduction to visual art. The intern will gain experience implementing these programs and interacting with students through a variety of interpretive techniques. They will also assist with administering our region of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the premiere recognition program for creative teens in grades 7-12. The intern will build a foundation for visual arts education beyond the traditional classroom setting, while gaining a working knowledge of the museum’s inner functions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should have strong written and verbal communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office, the ability to work both independently and within a team, and be receptive to feedback.
Priority will be given to juniors, seniors, and recent graduates in all areas of study, but applicants should have a demonstrated interest in art, art history, education, or related fields.

APPLICATION
SUMMARY
We are currently accepting applications for the 2024 Fall Semester Internship, open to area high school students. One intern per semester (fall and spring) will be selected. This is an unpaid (volunteer) position.
Teen Interns gain a working understanding of how a museum functions and the various roles of different museum careers with a focus on the education department. The intern may observe or assist with tours, help create educational activities for the galleries, gather research about upcoming exhibitions and teaching strategies, or complete other projects driven by individual interests.
Candidates should have an interest in art and sharing it with the community and be somewhat comfortable speaking in front of a small group. Priority will be given to rising juniors and seniors. Selected candidates must pass a background check before beginning their internship.
Hours are flexible but must fall between regular working hours, generally 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday, and optionally the first Thursday of the month from 5-6:30 pm.
