2012 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

February 11, 2012 - April 07, 2012

Over the past five years the Northeast Indiana Northwest Ohio Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Exhibition under the direction of the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, has grown into a region which consists of 26 counties in the art category and 52 for writing. The region now spans east toward Toledo, Ohio and south to Rush County in Indiana.

The exhibition includes hundreds of works of art and writing providing a glimpse of the talented teachers and students found in our regional schools. The high caliber of entries from this area propelled Northeast Indiana – Northwest Ohio to one of the top five best regions in the entire nation last year.

In 2011, the Alliance for Young Writer and Artists awarded 38 national medals to 29 regional winners in both art and writing. The Northeast Indiana/Northwest Ohio region had approximately 1,000 students in both middle and high school submitted more than 3,000 entries for regional judging this year. Regional Gold Key winners were then sent to New York for judging on a national level. The national award ceremony took place at Carnegie Hall.

The Fort Wayne Museum of Art’s success in leading our Scholastic Art & Writing Affiliate Program is directly related to our willingness to invest – money and human resources – in our region’s young talent.  Our regional entries and national awards have more than doubled in the past five years, making us one of the top five regions last year. Our investment has helped regional students garner nearly one million dollars in scholarships at colleges and universities across the country for the third straight year.
